CONFERENCE NEWS & INVITATIONS
A Hot & Spicy “Cajun” ISCAS in New Orleans
The IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS) celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel in May 27-30, 2007. With over 1000 participants, this year’s ISCAS was a huge success, not only because of its very high-standard technical program but also stimulated by a hot and spicy “Cajun” mood that Magdy Bayoumi (the conference chair) and his team had created for their ISCAS participants.
The conference began softly with a whole day of highly informative tutorials on Sunday, May 27. In the evening, attendees were welcomed by a Jazz Festival reception, where they were reminded about being in the capital of Jazz music. On Monday, May 28, the first plenary talk set the theme of the conference—Circuits and Systems for Ubiquitous Computing, Sensing and Perception. The speaker was Greg Papadopolous of SUN Microsystems. The conference theme was further addressed by the other two plenary speakers, Dennis Buss of TI and Rosalind Picard of MIT Media Lab, who gave their talks in the following two mornings.
As usual, this year’s ISCAS has kept its technical program to a very high standard, thanks to the efforts of Nam Ling and Gianluca Setti (the technical program chairs) and their dedicated team of track chairs, review committee members and reviewers. With 992 papers organized in 124 lecture, 20 special and 57 poster sessions, the program covered 12 different tracks of technical interests. For the first time in the history of ISCAS, a student poster presentation contest and a live demo contest were organized.
ISCAS 2007 will prove to be unforgettable for its over 1000 attendees who enjoyed themselves immensely in the colorful Mardi Gras Ball and the integrated hot Cajun and soulful Zydeco music in the closing party!
